Testimonials

I have known Mark for over 10 years and he has been an instrumental partner in elevating our work in the TESOL program at USD by providing curricular innovations as well as sustained practicum experiences for our students through formalized partnerships, which is one of the hallmarks for our program. Mark has also been our top instructor for our Mexico City TESOL certificate program, where he traveled on our behalf to deliver coursework in person at the Institute of Thomas Jefferson. I have also had the honor of co-publishing an article on the use of mentor texts in supporting ESOL students in developing their reading and writing skills, and serving as a member on his dissertation where he studied the impact of professional learning communities on teacher development. It has been an absolute honor and delight to work with Mark who is always open to exploring new ideas, and who also encourages me to consider ways in which we could continue to improve our work. His collaborative spirit, professionalism, expertise, and commitment to excellence have truly enriched our work and I look forward to his new endeavors as a consultant.

I worked with Mark through the 2010s as we developed and implemented a statewide community of practice for learning assistance to support the development and evolution of learning assistance programs, centers, and services broadly for the California Community Colleges. This entity was supported by the California Community Colleges Success Network (3CSN). In that capacity I worked closely with Mark as we conducted numerous presentations at conferences where we made important connections that often led to opportunities to advise and support particular colleges. Additionally, we produced and coordinated an annual conference called Tutor Expo, which expanded into various regions in California to shine a light on the work of postsecondary tutors and the faculty and staff who support them. We also developed professional materials around effective practices regarding learning assistance, keeping consistent with emerging trends for student success within the field of postsecondary education. In short, Mark is a sincere, dedicated professional who contributes greatly to any endeavor he pursues. He is a caring leader and instructor who also has the ability to coordinate projects of any scale to effect positive change for any program or institution. He is able to adjust and adapt to any stakeholder audience and he listens to understand the concerns and goals of students, staff, faculty, and administrators. He deftly merges educational theory and on-the-ground practice to bring immediate clarity and purpose to any challenge or opportunity. With the ability to listen and support the development of leadership, his support yields significant benefits to any institution because he respects the unique characteristics and history of the institution and seeks to empower those who wish to carry it forward. In other words, working with Mark is a great investment that yields lasting returns. In my experience, working with Mark has proven to be not only enjoyable, but inspiring due to his enthusiasm to make a meaningful difference within the postsecondary educational landscape. He is friendly, easy to talk to, and always leads by listening and being supportive. He has instilled in me a stronger belief in my own abilities to lead and contribute positively to our field as we both work in similar capacities to enhance student success for community colleges. He is trustworthy, dependable, and reliable. In sum, I offer my highest recommendation to Dr. Mark Manasse.
